The past can occasionally deliver obvious solutions for the future...
| | The present conditions of business cannot be accepted as satisfactory. There are too many who do not prosper enough, and of the few who prosper greatly there are certainly some whose prosperity does not mean well for the country... And we heartily approve the prosperity, no matter how great, ...if it comes as an incident to rendering service to the community. But we wish to shape conditions so that a greater number of the small men who are decent, industrious and energetic shall be able to succeed, and so that the big man who is dishonest shall not be allowed to succeed at all.
-- TEDDY ROOSEVELT, Chicago, August, 1912 | | | Economy | Returning jobs to America will be a top priority. Every American must have an opportunity to earn a living wage. Two thirds of America's GDP is consumer spending. But without quality jobs, especially those created by small businesses, our prosperity ends. To subsidize outsourcing jobs through unfair trade practices and tax breaks for outsourcing firms is an outrage. | | Veterans | Veterans returning from harm’s way should not wait for essential services. Veterans deserve Federal Budget priority. | | Education | As a former educator, I strongly support quality education for Arizona. Arizona's future requires a well-rounded, fully funded education system teaching to concepts, not simply tests, because the new business and industry leaders of the 21st Century will want to locate where their children can get a quality education. Unless our schools improve, these leaders will go to another state. Let's invest in smaller classrooms, quality teachers and proven community education services. | | Immigration Reform | Comprehensive Immigration Reform is a top priority and one critical to Arizona. With only lip service from Congress, there are no real solutions in sight. Porous borders, accessibility of jobs and exploitation of migrant workers leave Arizonans reeling from the impact of violent crime and corruption. We must stem the tide of illegal immigration.
| | Infrastructure | America must revitalize its infrastructure, especially here in Arizona. Our roads, bridges, public transportation and national parks, a main driver behind a century of prosperity, are now crumbling. At a time when Arizonans need employment, leaving these investments unfunded is an outrage and a missed opportunity |
